豊北レルムズへようこそ！

What is Hohoku Realms?

豊北レルムズとは何ですか。

Hohoku Realms is a challenge activity for students at Hohoku Junior High School. By using English outside of the classroom, students characters can earn experience points and level up their ‘strengths’. Students compete as individuals, in class teams, and in mixed year clans, with prizes being awarded periodically. Based on many elements from popular RPGs (Role Playing Games), students will encounter various English challenges throughout the year, including a need to do various activities in order to attempt certain challenges.

豊北レルムズとは豊北中学の生徒のためのチャレンジアクティビティのことです。授業の外で英語を使うことを通じて、生徒のキャラクターがXP(経験値）を獲得できて、｢強さ｣をレベルアップできます。個人としても、クラスに基づくチームとしても、年生を混ぜるクランとしても、生徒は競争して、たまに商品が貰える。人気のあるRPG(ロールプレイングゲーム)の色んな部分を基に、年間を通じて生徒は英語のチャレンジと会ってくる。

Similar activities have been successfully run by Lee Sheldon at the University of Indiana (USA) and Ben Bertoli, as well as having been brought to like on a topic called ‘Gamifying Education‘ on the internet video show Extra Credits. Darlo, ALT at Hohoku Junior High School, also wrote about the topic during his time at university.

同じようなアクティビティは、アメリカのインディアナ大学のリー・シェルドン先生に、ベン・バートリ先生にももう上手く行われました。Extra Credits(エクストラクレジッツ)というウェブ番組も、「教育のゲーム化」という番組でこのようなことについて相談しました。豊北町のALT(外国語指導助手)のダーロさんも大学生として｢教育のゲーム化｣について書きました。
